Pompei's Grotto opened on February 1, 1946. Its proprietors, Frank and Marian Pompei, started with a small location which included a counter, six stools, and five tables.

They served only sea food cocktails, cracked crab, spaghetti, and sandwiches. From that humble beginning the restaurant expanded three times.

Today it is acknowledged as one of San Francisco's finest restaurants specializing in sea food dishes. Its success has been earned through hard work and pride.

Today, the family tradition continues, as Pompei's Grotto provides visitors with the greatness San Francisco has come to know on Fisherman's Wharf.
