Owner Mattin Nobilia, a native of the Basque country, has been enamored with cooking since the age of 5. By age 14, Mattin made his dream a reality when he entered a 3 year culinary training program.

After completing his training and an apprenticeship, he received a Chef De Cuisine diploma. His skills were then honed through through stints at restaurants in France and Switzerland.

In 2002, Mattin came to San Francisco with big dreams. One year later he opened Iluna Basque. Dishes are presented in a modern way, yet also embody the comfort within his home country.
