Palmito, the Spanish word for heart of palm, is located in the Lakeview neighborhood near the comer of Ashland & Addison.
Come enjoy traditional and contemporary Costa Rican cuisine
in an intimate, casual setting. As the name implies, this new
eatery specializes in preparing various dishes with fresh hearts
of palm. In addition to heart of palm salad, a traditional Costa
Rican dish, Palmito offers a "bruschetta" of hearts, sauteed with garlic, tomato and white wine.


They also grill the hearts as one of their vegetarian entrees The rest of the menu offers other traditional Costa Rican dishes and items like ceviche, arroz con pollo, plantains, black bean soup, empanadas, rice pudding and gallo pinto, a black bean and rice mixture traditionally served for breakfast.

Diners will also be delighted by Palmito's other creations like their
fig and candied pistachio salad, grilled pork chop with pineapple glaze, and sauteed chicken breast in a sweet and savory mango sauce. Vegetarians will have no problem finding something to devour here. All the salads and many of the soups are prepared vegetarian. The current menu includes three vegetarian entrees. Meat lovers can sink their teeth into the NY strip steak chimichurri and yuca fries.

Anyone in the mood for seafood can try the one of the ceviches, grilled salmon, or tilapia al ajillo, sauteed in garlic oil served with
a plantain mash. For a bit of fun with your rice pudding or tres leches cake, have coffee "brewed" at your table in a chorreador,
a small wooden structure that holds a cloth basket filter as your cup awaits the fresh coffee. Palmito is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday 5pm to 1Opm. Appetizers, soups and salads
